We have to make sure your mouth is healthy and the teeth and gums are healthy to have this done. Veneers are more expensive but last longer than composite bonding and they take a few appointments to do. Composite bonding is done in the surgery in one appointment and can do a similar thing to veneers. The dentist does it by hand and what is great is that you can walk away with the teeth that you wanted.
There are a few considerations with these cosmetic treatments. Firstly the health of the teeth and gums and the amount of sugar that you have in your diet. Then the way your teeth bite together is something that we look at to make sure the veneers or bonding can last. We then need to think of the colour of the teeth and which treatment is best for you and your budget.
All of this can be looked at with an appointment with the dentist.

Veneers and composite bonding FAQs
What do aligners do?
Aligners are a clear brace that can straighten your teeth to give you a great smile. They move the teeth very carefully and the braces are clear so people wont know that you are wearing them.
Are they the same as braces?
Braces that most people think of are metal braces that use wires to move the teeth. Any appliance that moves teeth is an orthodontic brace, but wire braces can use bigger movements for more complicated cases. Clear aligners are usually used to move teeth in the aesthetic region (smile line) and can use smaller forces and movements to achieve this.
How long do they take?
They usually take around 6-9 months to complete. It does depend on how many aligners you have. The dentist will let you know during your assessment.
What do they look like?
They are clear and if you need attachments they are tooth coloured so these braces are very discreet.
Do they hurt?
They don’t hurt but sometimes you can feel the pressure on a tooth or two, but usually just for the first few days of the new brace.
How long do I wear them for?
You wear the aligners all the time. You only take them out to eat and brush your teeth. Ideally about 22 hrs a day. When they are not in, they cant work. It is very important to keep them in all the time, as the plan is based around this length of time in your mouth and the expected results depend upon it.
Can I eat with them in?
You need to take them out to eat and drink – although you can drink water with them in. You take them out to eat, when you are finished, you brush your teeth and clean the braces and put them back in.
Do they turn yellow?
The braces and your teeth will not turn yellow. You do need to be really good at keeping everything clean
What are the difference between metal braces and aligners?
Metal braces are used to do bigger movements and clear aligners are used for movement in the aesthetic region.
Why not invisalign?
We use Smilelign. They are an aligner company that are very similar to invisalign in terms of their technology, but are a British company instead of an American one. They are even in Yorkshire which means they are on hand if we ever need them and can speak to them on the phone at any time of the day.
